DMCC MoU looks to engage Dubai-based ex-NBA player Jawann Oldham
The Dubai Multi Commodities Centre Authority (‘DMCC’) signed a Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) with Aetius Media to promote health and fitness in the
UAE through multiple grassroots sports including basketball.
Held at Almas Tower, the tallest commercial tower in the Middle East, the
MoU signing ceremony was attended by DMCC officials, Aetius Media and former
NBA star Jawann Oldham.
Under the terms of the MoU, DMCC will partner with Aetius Media to bring
international basketball role models to Dubai to interact with children and
raise awareness of health and fitness through physical education.
Both parties will also collaborate with Jawann Oldham to explore fitness
opportunities, including building a sports multiplex in Dubai.
Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman, DMCC, said:
“Today’s MoU with Aetius Media marks an important milestone in DMCC’s
ongoing drive to promote a healthier lifestyle in the UAE by inspiring our
youth to participate in sports through interaction with international sports
role models.
“We are proud to be working with former NBA player and basketball legend
Jawann Oldham to take this initiative to the next level.”
Jawann Oldham has played in 10 NBA seasons for eight different team,
including the Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets, Chicago Bulls, New York
Knicks, Sacramento Kings, Orlando Magic, Los Angeles Lakers and Indiana
Pacers.
Now based in Dubai and founder of the Jawann Oldham Professional Development
Basket Academy, Oldham said:
“DMCC has a strong track record in raising awareness around the importance
of leading a healthy lifestyle and I am delighted to explore future projects
in the health and fitness arena with DMCC and Aetius Media here in Dubai.
The MoU follows on from DMCC’s many health and well-being initiatives,
including the recent DMCC Kobe Bryant Health and Fitness Weekend and the
Lose Your Weight in Gold Campaign, in association with Dubai Municipality
and the Dubai Gold & Jewellery Group.
