Dubai Ruler HH Sheikh Mohammed opens GITEX Technology Week
UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh
Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum at GITEX Technology Week 2013 UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh
Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum emphasised that the emirate of Dubai is
confidently marching ahead to achieve its goal of becoming a ‘Smart City’
that utilises high-tech solutions to streamline the delivery of various
government services to residents and visitors.
Sheikh Mohammed’s statement came during his tour at the 33rd edition of the
GITEX Technology Week 2013, the largest information, communication and
technology event in the Middle East, which opened on Sunday at the Dubai
World Trade Centre.
According to a release posted on the Ruler's official website, expressing
confidence in UAE’s ability to transform itself into a ‘Smart State’ in the
near future, HH Sheikh Mohammed said that Dubai is leading the way into the
digital future through adopting the Smart City project.
He also expressed optimism over UAE’s chances to win the honour of hosting
Expo2020, adding that many teams at the national level are working hard to
make this event a resounding success worthy of UAE’s
internationally-acclaimed reputation of hosting such high-profile events.
Accompanying HH Sheikh Mohammed on his tour were Dubai Crown Prince HH
Sheikh Hamdan and Dubai Deputy Ruler Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid
Al Maktoum.
Visting the Ministry of Presidential Affairs’ stand, HH Sheikh Mohammed
inaugurated the new website dedicated for the initiatives launched by UAE
President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The new website
aims to increase interaction with the public and establish a platform for
open communication.
Held at Dubai’s World Trade Centre, the event’s 33rd edition is largely
expected to be the biggest one to date with the participation of around
3,500 companies from 130 countries representing the world’s leading ICT
brands.
