HH Sheikh Mohammed orders Dhs33 million bonus to taxi plate owners
HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister
of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has ordered the payment of a Dhs33.28 million
bonus to Emirati citizens whose taxi number plates are operated by the Dubai
Taxi Corporation and Taxi Franchise Companies.
Some 6,656 taxis in the fleet are franchised and operated in such a manner.
The system can be traced back to the 1990s, before the taxi franchise was
brought in and Emiratis privately owned taxis.
Each year the owners received a bonus and this year’s is a 25 per cent
increase from 2014’s bonus.
The RTA will start distribution of the 2015 bonus to the entitled
recipients, over and above their annual financial dues from this week.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General of RTA, said the payment will enable them
to “better cope with the requirements of life and provide decent living for
them and their families.”
He said: “This bonus is one of several other generous gestures we are
accustomed to from HH Sheikh Mohammed. It also illustrates the attention
made to provide good living to all members of the community, and articulates
the prevailing social solidarity concepts among individuals.”
