UAE No 1 in government and business - trust
Trust in the
UAE government and businesses is at a new high, a recent survey has shown.
The Edelman Trust Barometer 2014 puts public trust for the country’s plans
and policies at 88 per cent, higher than Singapore at 82 per cent and China
at 81.
His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and
Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, lauded the President, His
Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and said the findings were an
endorsement of the government’s policies and its business-friendly
initiatives. “The people’s confidence in the government led by President His
Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, comes as a result of the
government’s closeness to people and its response to their needs.”
He said the government would continue the development process and would
engage with the people.
“And as a team, we will score more successes,” he tweeted.
The public has also given a big thumbs-up to businesses in the UAE. A score
of 82 per cent puts it at joint first with Indonesia.
The Vice-President said the government would continue the development
process and remain close to the people. Last year, the UAE ranked sixth in
the index.
“The UAE’s plans and strategies contributed to the trust in performance it
earned over the year,” said Shaikh Mohammed.
The 2014 Edelman Trust Barometer is the firm’s 14th annual survey on
government and business. The firm surveyed 33,000 people (27,000 from the
general public and 6,000 informed public respondents) in 27 markets around
the world on their trust in institutions, credible sources/channels and
specific issues and perceptions impacting trust in business and government.
“It has generally fallen to government leaders to establish the context for
change, to mould public sentiment, then through legislative or regulatory
process create the rules of the game,” said Richard Edelman, president and
CEO of the public relations firm.
Business recovered trust from the crisis period in 2008 because it is seen
as having made demonstrable strides in transparency, supply chain and
product quality, said Edelman.
