Mohammed bin Rashid attends Olympic Creativity Workshop
Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum today attended the
Olympic Creativity Workshop organised by the National Olympic Committee in
collaboration with the General Sports Authority.
Sheikh Mohammed was accompanied by Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman Of
Dubai Sports Council HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum;
Deputy Ruler of Dubai HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum;
President of the UAE National Olympic Committee (NOC) HH Sheikh Ahmed bin
Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum; and HH Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin
Rashid Al Maktoum.
Sheikh Mohammed stressed the importance of discussions to identify the UAE’s
strengths in various sectors. Such discussions can further improve the
performance of various sectors in the country, as well as ensure the highest
quality of outcomes in various spheres of life including sports.
Speaking to participants of the Olympic Creativity Workshop, Sheikh Mohammed
said that supporting the sports sector is a top priority of the government
as part of its drive to be among the leading nations in the world. He
highlighted the high-quality sports infrastructure that exists across the
country and the continuous training provided to athletes across various
sporting disciplines to enable them to be champions.
Vice President of the NOC Humaid Al Qatami briefed His Highness about the
various topics discussed at the Workshop, which included strategic planning,
financial support, technical issues in sports, communication and sports
marketing, external representation, sports and talent scouting, enterprises
and sports infrastructure, health and anti-dumping protection, knowledge and
training, and programmes and events.
Al Qatami said that the objectives of the Olympic Creativity Workshop are in
line with the directives of the leadership to invest in human resources and
enhance the health and happiness of people. He also said that the NOC is
keen to organise such events to improve the skills and capabilities of
national athletes. The Workshop, he said, is an ideal platform for such
discussions.
The Workshop, held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Dubai, saw the participation
of prominent sports figures and NOC members, as well as heads of sports
federations.
Key recommendations of the Olympic Creativity Workshops included the
participation of banks and corporate organisations, the establishment of an
Olympic village, the design of a model for technical analysis of Olympic
athletes, and the setting up a national Olympic plan for 2021-2028. Other
recommendations included the creation of a national communication committee
as part of the NOC. The Workshop also discussed the importance of supporting
people of determination and including them in health and fitness programmes.
The Olympic Creativity Workshop was attended by Olympic gold medalist Sheikh
Ahmad bin Mohammad bin Hasher Al Maktoum; Chairman of the UAE Sailing And
Rowing Federation Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Saqr Al Nehayan; Chief of the
Board of Directors and President of the UAE Fencing Federation and member of
the NOC Eng. Sheikh Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi; President of the Emirates
Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad bin Saif Al
Sharqi; Member of the Board of Directors of the UAE Volleyball Association
Shaikha Shamsa bint Hasher Al Maktoum and Second Vice President of the NOC
Mohammed Al Mahmoud.
On the sidelines of the Workshop, the NOC, represented by Vice President of
the NOC and President of the NOC’s Executive Committee Humaid Al Qatami,
signed a number of agreements, including an agreement with the Abu Dhabi
Police General Headquarters represented by its Supreme Sports Committee and
chaired by Brigadier Khalifa Butti Al Shamsi. Other agreeements were signed
with Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), represented by Dr.
Abdulla Al Karam, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director General of
the KHDA; and the American University in the Emirates, represented by
President of the University Prof. Muthanna G. Abdul Razzaq; apart from the
Infinity Sports Company and the Fit Group.
The NOC also honoured a number of UAE athletes including shooter Khalid Al
Kabi, cyclist Yousif Mirza, discus throwing champion Fatima Al Hussani, and
athletics champion Widad Ibrahim, in addition to Sharjah Sports Council for
its role in the success of Emirati Children’s Day, which was organised in
partnership with the NOC. Members of the executive committee were also
honoured for their participation in the National Sports Day initiative.
